Mogotsi briefly appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of defeating the ends of justice.

The matter was delayed to allow for a formal bail application next week and to verify his residential address.

Mogotsi’s case is postponed to Monday, 25 May 2026, for a formal bail application. He will spend another seven days behind bars after being charged with defeating the ends of justice.

It is alleged that on 3 November 2025, Mogotsi reported to the police that while driving alone in Vosloorus, he was pursued by the occupants of a bakkie who allegedly fired multiple shots at his vehicle, forcing him to stop and flee on foot.

Following his report, the police launched an investigation into the alleged attempted murder. However, investigations subsequently revealed that Mogotsi allegedly stopped his vehicle deliberately, exited it while armed with a firearm, and fired multiple shots at his own vehicle.

It is further alleged that Mogotsi made a false statement under oath in an affidavit deposed before a commissioner of oaths, falsely claiming that his vehicle had been shot at by unknown assailants.

The state prosecutor asked the court to remand the case involving Mogotsi for seven days to allow investigators time to verify his residential address in Mmabatho, Mahikeng, in the North West.

The defence opposed the request, arguing that the state does not need a full week to confirm the address. Mogotsi’s legal team instead asked the court to postpone the matter until Thursday.
