The pair appeared before the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, where they admitted to the offences brought against them. Their convictions mark a significant development in the case, with sentencing proceedings now scheduled for April 24, 2026.

Mugabe pleaded guilty to violating immigration laws and pointing a firearm. Matonhodze, on the other hand, admitted to a string of charges including attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, defeating the ends of justice, and breaching immigration regulations.

The charges are linked to a February 19, 2026 incident at Mugabe’s residence in Hyde Park. An altercation reportedly broke out between the accused and a security guard. He was later found outside the property by another security guard, who quickly alerted authorities.

According to police, two officers were processing the suspect in the cells when he allegedly overpowered them, assaulted them, and took the keys to the main door. When backup arrived, the suspect allegedly grabbed a firearm from one of the responding officers, opened fire, and locked officers inside the cells.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the suspect attempted to hold six police officers hostage during the standoff. Specialist police units were then deployed to the scene to contain the situation.

“The hostage situation continued for several minutes before tactical police teams managed to penetrate the cells and, during the operation, the 22-year-old suspect was shot and fatally wounded,” Netshiunda said. Two police officers, a male and a female, sustained minor injuries during the scuffle. Police officers who were held hostage will be temporarily withdrawn from active duty to undergo psychological debriefing.

According to police reports, in addition to the four life sentences, Dayi was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, three separate 15-year imprisonment terms for illegal possession of firearms, four years’ imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition, and 10 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder.

The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

One of the murder incidents that shocked the nation was captured in a social media video clip. In the footage, three Sasko bread employees were seen travelling in a truck to deliver bread to a spaza shop in Delft along Symphony Way on 16 May 2024.

The accused and his co-accused were shown shooting at the victims, despite the victims appearing to surrender.

Earlier that same year, Dayi committed a double murder in Dunoon, where he shot and killed two men before hijacking their vehicle.

Dayi had previously been convicted of rape and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in August 2002. He was on parole when he committed the four murder offences.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile, commended the investigating and prosecution teams for ensuring that justice was served.

This comes after the court found him guilty on seven counts of rape, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of robbery as well as house breaking and assault.

Mthethwa, who was terrorising the areas of Richards Bay, KwaMbonambi and Empangeni, started his raping spree in March 2017, when he raped a woman and strangled her with the intention to kill her at KwaMbonambi.

During his cold-blooded raping spree, Mthethwa also came across three women in Richards Bay.

He fired a shot at one woman and raped the other whilst forcing the other victims to witness the act.

With police realizing that there was a serial rapist on the loose, a team of dedicated detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit connected the dots and Mthethwa was stopped on his tracks in 2021.

His reign of terror ended when he was arrested and charged on 21 counts, inclusive of rape, attempted murder, business robbery, house breaking and assault.

His youngest rape victim was a 13-year-old girl whom he raped after breaking into the house she was sleeping in.

Mthethwa’s name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

The court’s decision was based on a disturbing sequence of events that revealed the premeditated nature of the crime.

The acid attack, which left Mmapeu with severe injuries and a long road to recovery, was captured on video footage.

The footage showed the accused displaying extreme anger and a refusal to accept the termination of her relationship, threatening to publish intimate images of Mmapeu, and boasting about having caused her to lose her job.

The video evidence clearly indicated premeditation and intent to harm.

The sentencing will take place atMokopane Magistrate’s Court today.

The victim was on her way to work when she was contacted through a cellphone by her colleague, who informed her that there was a woman looking for her at the store.

According to South Police Service (SAPS) report they say upon arrival, the victim went straight to the storeroom and took out the items to be sold, and started packing them on the shelves.

“While busy packing, a 39-year-old female suspect approached her, and they exchanged greetings. Afterward, the suspect unexpectedly started stabbing the victim repeatedly with a knife, and she sustained several stab wounds on the body.

The security personnel at the store managed to overpower the female suspect and rescue the victim,”they said.

SAPS said following the incident, police and members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned at the scene.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment and the 39-year-old woman was nabbed at the retail store for attempted murder and a sharp object utilized during the commission of the crime was also seized during the arrest.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect went to the retail store with the intention to harm the victim. On arrival, she pretended to be loading groceries in the trolley that included a set of knives, and she prepared one to stab the 40-year-old female victim before meeting her,” they said.

They further said that the motive behind the incident is unknown at this stage.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of New Year’s Day, around 2 a.m., when the man returned home apparently under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly found his 55-year-old wife chatting with a neighbor and quickly started quarreling with her.

Things escalated when the couple’s two sons aged 17 and 20 stepped in to calm the situation. That’s when the father allegedly drew his licensed firearm and opened fire.

The younger son was struck in the head and sadly passed away at the scene, despite paramedics’ efforts. His brother was shot in the hand, while the mother suffered a gunshot wound to her thigh. Both are receiving treatment.

The man fled on foot right after the shots rang out, sparking an immediate police search. Officers tracked him down later that morning, around 11:30, hiding in a nearby primary school.

During the arrest, he allegedly pointed the gun at police, prompting officers to shoot him in the hand in self-defense. He’s now hospitalized under police watch and will face charges including murder, three counts of attempted murder, and pointing a firearm.

Limpopo’s acting police commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the violence, highlighting concerns over gender-based issues in the province. He urged people struggling with relationship problems to seek counseling instead of turning to aggression.

The man is set to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon, though possibly in absentia while he recovers. Investigations continue.

Real name Bukelani Nxumalo, Dlubheke who is the son of the well known legendary maskandi ground founder Shobeni Khuzwayo is currently facing serious two murder and two attempted murder charges is fighting to get bail at the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court in the midlands of KwaZulu Natal (KZN).

Dlubheke is currently beingnheld at the Westville Prison in Durban after his attempt tonget bail last month were met with another misery when two more murder charges were added and are being investigated by the Gauteng Murder and Serious Crimes Unit.

The investigations follows an incident which is alleged tonhave happened in January 1, 2022 where where a gun attack led to the death of two car passengers near the Mpukunyoni area in Nquthu.

The musician̈ was arrested for two murders and two attempted murders that happened in 2023.

According to a statement that was released by the KZN Saps spokesperson Liuetenant Colonel Paul Magwaza comfirmed the incident.

“On 12 November 2023 , four males victims were in a white motor vehicle traveling from Ntinini area in Babanango towards their homes. While passing Mpukunyoni area, they were allegedly stopped by the suspect whom they conversed while enroute. When the car was about to stop, the suspecct started shooting towards them and the driver lost control and the car veered off the road. Two victims managed to flee the scene while the other two succumbed to their injuries,” he said.

In the latest events. Dlubheke is linked with the murder that allegedly took place in Tembisa in Gauteng and the police have another warrant of arrest against him for another case that happened on 1 November 2024. The Ningakhali hitmaker appeared again in Nquthu Magistrate’s Court and the state wanted to oppose bail.

Lately Dlubheke’s close friend Zamani Ngila from Qhudeni in Nquthu was shot and killed by Gautng Saps in an incident that is said to have took place in Ekurhuleni in September.

Ngila is said tonhave been wanted for numerous murder charges in the taxi industry.

Ngila was also accused of killing IFP’s member of Parliament Khethamabala Petros Sithole who was shot and killed in Gauteng this year.
