Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has revealed the staggering financial hurdles that prevented South Africa from hosting world champions Argentina or five-time winners Brazil this month.

Instead of a ‘Clash of Titans’ at FNB Stadium, the national team will face Panama in two friendly encounters – first in Durban this Friday and then in Cape Town next Tuesday.

According to Broos, the decision came down to a flinch from a cash-strapped Safa when faced with appearance fees nearing R100 million.

Broos laid out the cold, hard numbers presented to Safa Chiefs Executive Officer Lydia Monyepao:

Brazil’s Price: Approximately $5m (R84.4m) to bring the Seleção to South African shores.

Argentina’s Price: A whopping €5m (R97.9m) to see Lionel Messi and Co. play in Johannesburg.

“It’s easy to say, ‘yeah, why not?’ but we don’t have that money,” Broos admitted.

“Safa made a big effort just to have Panama here; they are not coming for free either.”

Broos argued that a sold-out FNB Stadium (90 000 capacity) would likely have covered the costs, but the financial risk was deemed too high for the association.

While fans may be disappointed, Broos insists that 33rd-ranked Panama is the perfect tactical surrogate for South Africa’s World Cup opener against Mexico on June 11.

Panama employs the same aggressive, high-tempo Central American style as Mexico.

“It will teach us a lot about that style of playing,” Broos said. “The results are not that important, but I don’t want two defeats.”

These matches represent the final Fifa date before the tournament begins, making them the ultimate dress rehearsal for the clash at the Estadio Azteca.

South Africa’s International Relations Director General Zane Dangor says Argentina was the only G20 nation to raise concerns about the Leaders’ Declaration during negotiations.

Global delegations, with the exception of the United States, are gathered in Johannesburg as South Africa hosts its historic G20 Summit. Despite Argentina’s reservations, the declaration was adopted on Friday after broad consensus was reached among the G20 Sherpas.

Argentina’s President Javier Milei did not attend the summit in Nasrec and instead sent his Foreign Minister Pablo Quirino to represent the country. Milei, who has been in office for two years, has not provided any reasons for withdrawing from the G20 Leaders Summit hosted by South Africa.

Real name Philani Manyoni, the Pholisa hitmaker recently returned from the USA where he left behind his Irish born fiance in order to pursue his other business interest in South Africa.

Speaking to MDN, Dj Mpiloz said that opening the Ikhaya Shisanyama and Carwash was a dream come true for him.

‘Ikhaya is a Zulu word which means home. I wanted to build something that will always remind me where home is at. With the Shisanyama and Carwash business, I will be able to spend time in the USA and also come back to check on the business on how is it doing. This is something which will make me come back home at anytime,” he said.

Despite being open about his Irish born fiance, Dj Mpiloz said that he prefers his relationship private since she is someone who is not in the public domain.

‘Yes I’m engaged to a beautiful white Irish girl since last year. We are still not married yet hopefully the date will come soon. I will invite you all,” he said giggling.

Speaking about being homesick, Dj Mpiloz said that business as the side hustle will always be good since it will help him to pay the bills.

“I needed something on the side that will feed my family because you know in the music industry sometimes gigs can be dry, but the bills still stand. I needed to have something that can put bread on the table so that I can be able to provide for my family,” he said.

Dj Mpiloz further said that on his latest single titled Pholisa he featured is friends Tebza De Dj and singer Buhle Nhlangulela.

“The way the song was made is magical. I recently came back home because my sister is getting married. Tebza called me and when I arrived in studio there was Buhle. What happened next is magic, that is how Pholisa was made. It was a blessing in disguise because after the wedding I’m going back to the USA where I get more recognition than in SA,” he said.

Dj Mpiloz said that he also get more recognition in the UK, Qatar, Mexico, Netherlands, Kenya , Ethiopia and Argentina just to name the few.

“My dream is to be recognized everywhere, specifically in the international stage. I want to be able to donate houses for the poor, food and clothes for those who are in need,” he said.

NEW ZEALAND – The All Blacks put their Rugby Championship troubles behind them with a 53-3 dismantling of Argentina in Hamilton Saturday, as New Zealand coach Ian Foster lauded his group’s ambition.

The rampant house facet scored seven tries in an emphatic show to avenge final week’s shock loss to the Pumas, with the result leaving each groups on two wins and two losses in the Rugby Championship.

Up 24-3 at halftime, New Zealand’s show was vastly extra medical than final week’s 25-18 defeat in Christchurch.

On that event, the Pumas’ resolute defensive wall and breakdown physicality held sway, however the All Blacks discovered methods to beat these hurdles in their most eye-catching efficiency of a turbulent 12 months.

It brings some aid for under-fire coach Foster, who has now overseen three wins from his final 9 Tests in cost — a report he’ll hope to enhance in two remaining Rugby Championship Tests in opposition to Australia this month.

Foster mentioned he was pleased with his gamers.

“I just love the ambition. When you’ve had a few losses, it’s easy to shut down a little bit,” he mentioned.

“That’s what I think we saw in the in the last quarter last week, and this week’s been about sort of just trying to change that and getting them just to trust the rugby players that they are. I was really pleased with the ambition particularly early when it was very wet.

“I believed we performed with a little bit of width after which unfold them out a bit.”

Despite the climate circumstances, New Zealand made solely three dealing with errors whereas unleashing a number of thrilling attacking strikes.

They created first-half tries to Ethan de Groot, Caleb Clarke and Reiko Ioane whereas Jordie Barrett, Ardie Savea, Brodie Retallick and Beauden Barrett crossed after the interval.

Argentina wing Emiliano Boffelli, who scored 20 factors with the boot final week, landed a solitary penalty for his group’s solely factors.

UNDER PRESSURE

Captain Sam Cane, whose place can be below scrutiny, expressed aid.

“It was massively important (to win), we were under a bit of pressure. We weren’t happy with what we dished up last week,” he mentioned.

“This week, we were in the game right from the start and we’re able to turn that into points. That was a pretty enjoyable night.”

Argentina counterpart Julian Montoya mentioned his group discovered some worthwhile classes.

“We need to keep working to be better. Last week we weren’t world champions, this week we are not the worst of the world,” he mentioned.

“We need to look inside now and try to improve because in a couple of weeks we have South Africa. Congrats to New Zealand, they played really well.”

New Zealand’s forwards laid the platform, dominating the breakdown in a key reversal of final week, whereas they benefited from a technique that entailed extra kicking variations.

Argentina could not match the ball-running prowess of the All Blacks forwards, led by No.8 Savea and hooker Samisoni Taukei’aho — an space Foster mentioned they’d centered on.

“We carried well, we carried smart and (there was) a big difference in the officiating, too, The breakdown was very different to last week and that gave us a lot of confidence to play with the ball.”

The guests had been on the again foot from the beginning, when lock Tomas Lavanini dropped the primary go of the sport.

Fly-half Richie Mo’unga slotted a penalty objective — his first of 14 factors — and transformed a close-range strive from prop de Groot.

New Zealand had been 17-0 forward inside the primary quarter, when fast arms and an injection of pace from the spectacular centre Ioane put wing Clarke throughout in the left nook.

Boffelli kicked his solely penalty shot however the guests paid quickly afterwards for a yellow card proven to Lavanini for knowledgeable foul.

New Zealand exploited the numerical benefit to ship Ioane over, capping a dominant first-half show.

Argentina loved extra territory in the second spell however they didn’t capitalise and started to fade, permitting New Zealand to surge clear in a contrasting end to their final-quarter struggles final week.

Fullback Jordie Barrett started a late try-scoring flood, adopted by Savea and replacements Retallick and Beauden Barrett.

NEW ZEALAND – Argentina beat the All Blacks for the primary time in New Zealand with a shocking 25-18 Rugby Championship win in Christchurch on Saturday, piling additional stress on coach Ian Foster.

Playing with ardour and physicality, the Pumas gained the battle of the breakdown and benefited with 20 factors from the boot of Emiliano Boffelli to lodge simply their second win over the All Blacks.

The residence facet, who squandered an early 15-6 lead, have now misplaced six of their final eight Tests and might count on extra extreme criticism after the stress had eased following their last-start 35-23 defeat of the Springboks in Johannesburg.

They have misplaced three successive Tests at residence for the primary time following successive defeats towards Ireland final month and it could possibly be 4 on the trot in the event that they succumb once more to the Pumas in Hamilton subsequent week.

Victory for Argentina adopted their record-breaking 48-17 win over Australia in San Juan and extends their lead on the prime of the Rugby Championship standings.

Led by continuous flankers Pablo Matera and Marcos Kremer, the latter enjoying his fiftieth Test, the Pumas tackled themselves to a standstill, together with over the dramatic ultimate minutes once they repeatedly denied the determined hosts.

It was a brave efficiency eerily harking back to two years in the past, once they surprised New Zealand for the primary time 25-15 in Sydney.

On that event fly-half Nicolas Sanchez kicked six penalties and a conversion, a feat matched by the winger Boffelli, who landed all seven of his pictures at objective.

Matera, who was based mostly in Christchurch this season with the Canterbury Crusaders, was emotional after the ultimate whistle.

“It’s just too good, it’s a dream come true to come back with my country and beat the All Blacks for the first time, it’s even more special (than the Sydney win),” he stated.

Captain Julian Montoya hoped huge Test wins have gotten a norm for Argentina.

“We’re starting to believe in what we can do that it is not just a magic moment, like the first time (Sydney),” he stated.

“We just need to keep on working. Now we must enjoy this but we have another game in seven days. So yeah, I’m very, very proud. Very, very happy.

“This is for all of the individuals again residence who wakened at 4:30 am to observe this. I’m very proud, it is a actually particular second for us.”

New Zealand Rugby can expect to come under the blowtorch from its critics after its decision last week to reappoint Foster, despite the head coach’s dreadful record by All Blacks standards.

A strong finish at Ellis Park was enough to convince the New Zealand Rugby board to confirm Foster’s position through to next year’s World Cup, a decision they insisted wouldn’t be reviewed again.

However, many of the same problems that haunted New Zealand in last month’s series loss to Ireland and in the subsequent heavy defeat to the Springboks in Mbombela returned.

They were disjointed on attack and lacked the necessary physicality in contact against opponents whose confidence grew as the match proceeded.

Conceding 14 penalties allowed Boffelli to keep the scoreboard ticking over and created a stop-start game, which played into the hands of the visitors.

New Zealand captain Sam Cane said his side didn’t respond well to pressure.

“Plenty of credit score to go to the Argentinian facet for the way in which they caught in it and finally turned the tables,” he said.

“They ended up placing us below loads of stress that second half and we did not reply the way in which we needed. We made a couple of easy errors that we do not actually prefer to make.”
