Lekgutsa Mbele, SAACYF National Organiser and Free State Provincial Chairperson, coordinated the launch in the Free State Province, which covers five districts. Mbele emphasized the importance of applying for the funding, highlighting its potential to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the creative and cultural sectors. He encouraged artists to submit their applications before the closing date of October 9, 2025, and assured that SAACYF is committed to supporting artists in accessing this funding opportunity.

According to Mbele, securing funding can lead to increased creative output and innovation, job creation, and economic growth. He added that the success of local artists can inspire future generations, ensuring a thriving arts scene. By leveraging the knowledge gained from the help desk, artists can unlock new opportunities, drive creativity, and contribute to the community’s growth and development.
Mbele’s message emphasizes the significance of this funding opportunity for artists and the broader community. With SAACYF’s support, artists can tap into the funding available through the NAC PESP 6 program and make a meaningful impact in their communities.

The decision, which took effect on August 7, was explained as being linked to concerns regarding the Zimbabwean government. However, officials emphasized that this is not a travel ban—visas already issued remain valid.
The suspension applies to nearly all visa categories, except for most diplomatic and official applications. This comes after previous measures aimed at addressing issues such as visa overstays. In 2023, Zimbabwe recorded an overstay rate of more than 10%.
At the same time, new rules are also being applied in the region. Applicants from Zambia and Malawi may now be required to submit a bond of up to $15,000 for certain visitor visas.
For many Zimbabwean families, the sudden halt in visa processing is worrying, raising questions about travel plans, family reunifications, and business opportunities. Communities are expressing concern over how these changes will affect their lives.
This situation highlights the challenges faced by those caught in shifting immigration policies, leaving many in uncertainty about their next steps.
