]]> The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), together with SAPS, GTP, TMPD, EMPD, and RTMC, advises residents of the following coordinated public safety and traffic measures:

 

1. Operational Overview

• Elevated public safety operations will be active from 18–23 November 2025.

• Multi-agency collaboration will enhance visibility and enforce compliance with traffic and safety bylaws.

• Agencies involved include:

1. JMPD

2. SAPS

3. GTP

4. TMPD

5. EMPD

6. RTMC

2. Law Enforcement Activities

• Intensified crime prevention interventions.

• Increased visibility on strategic road networks.

• Roadblocks, tactical patrols, and multi-agency checkpoints across major corridors and high-risk zones.

• Focus on deterring criminal activity and safeguarding essential service movements and operational convoys.

3. Rolling Road Closures

• Implemented across Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni.

• Intermittent closures on high-security national routes, including:

1. N1, N3, N12, N14, R21, R24, M1, M2

• Estimated delays: 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on operational needs.

• Roads reopen immediately once convoys clear the area.

4. High-Impact Urban Nodes

• Planned restrictions in key precincts:

o Sandton, Rosebank, Melrose Arch, Fourways, Roodepoort, Nasrec

• Notable closures:

o Grayston Drive – 22 November, 04:00–10:00

o Golden Highway – full closure from 17 November

o Nasrec Road and Booysens Reserve Road – controlled access on 22–23 November

5. Recommended Alternative Routes

• M57 as an alternative for R21 traffic.

• Regional routes through Germiston, Kempton Park, Bedfordview for east–west mobility.

• In Roodepoort:

o Beyers Naudé Drive, Christiaan de Wet Road, Ontdekkers Road.

• In Sandton, Rosebank, Parktown:

o Use parallel routes to Oxford Road, Jan Smuts Avenue, Rivonia Road.

6. Guidance to Motorists

• Plan travel ahead and allow extra time.

• Stay alert to temporary signage and law enforcement instructions.

• Emergency services will always maintain priority movement.

• These interventions reinforce the City’s commitment to proactive public safety during high-demand periods.
