Mathibeli has deleted all defamatory social media posts and confirmed that he will refrain from making similar allegations against Mkhwanazi in future.

The matter, which unfolded in the Durban High Court, ended in defeat for Mathibeli after the court ruled against him and compelled compliance with its orders.

Mathibeli, who owns Calvin and Family Security Services in Durban North and is linked to the ANC, had made serious allegations against Mkhwanazi. These included claims that the provincial police commissioner was plotting to kill him, receiving money from taxi operators in KwaZulu-Natal, and working with criminal elements to maintain his position.

The businessman had also approached the court in a last-minute attempt to block the South African Police Service from entering his company premises.

However, the court dismissed the application, finding that it lacked urgency. The judge further ordered Mathibeli to pay legal costs.

This ruling cleared the way for SAPS to proceed with a full firearms compliance inspection at the company under Operation Buyisa.

The operation forms part of a nationwide crackdown targeting illegal firearms and non-compliant security companies.

Police confirmed that the inspection would proceed under constitutional authority, including provisions of the Firearms Control Act.

Operation Buyisa has emerged as one of SAPS’s most aggressive interventions against rising gun violence, with officers deployed across multiple provinces to seize illegal weapons and enforce compliance.

Authorities have warned that private security companies are now under heightened scrutiny.

Any company found to be operating outside the law faces serious consequences, including the confiscation of firearms and possible criminal charges.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mukhathi said the operation is aimed at curbing the spread of illegal firearms and strengthening control over licensed weapons.

He emphasised that inspections will continue nationwide as law enforcement intensifies efforts to restore order and reduce gun-related crime.

The failed court bid has placed Mathibeli and his company firmly in the spotlight as police move forward with enforcement actions.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has categorically denied allegations that he or his Patriotic Alliance (PA) party have ties to drug cartels.

The denial follows an exclusive telephonic interview conducted by eNCA journalist Heidi Giokos with convicted fraudster Jermaine Prim, who is currently serving time at Johannesburg Correctional Centre.

In the interview, Prim claimed McKenzie is a “proxy” for the so-called “Big 5” drug cartel and alleged that the minister smuggled two cellphones into prison to help run the PA’s social media and by-election campaigns. Prim further suggested the party received funding linked to drug money and operated as a political proxy for the ANC.

McKenzie, who leads the Patriotic Alliance and serves in the Government of National Unity, dismissed the claims as “far-fetched” and false. He stated he has never met Prim in person and only spoke to him once by telephone in January 2025. The minister indicated he would be taking legal action over the broadcast.

The Patriotic Alliance has rejected the accusations outright, describing Prim as a “serial conman” whose claims lack credibility.

Correctional Services officials confirmed the interview was unauthorised and have launched their own internal investigation into how it was conducted.

The allegations surfaced earlier this month when a letter written by Prim was presented to Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The cartel is alleged to be involved in drug trafficking, contract killings, and other serious crimes, and is currently under investigation by the Madlanga Commission.

McKenzie has a past criminal record but has long positioned himself as a reformed politician fighting crime. The latest claims have drawn sharp reactions on social media, with some calling for his suspension and others urging a full police investigation.

As the story develops, opposition parties and civil society groups are watching closely to see whether the matter will prompt an official probe by the Hawks.

Speaking during an anti-foreigners march in Durban on Wednesday, Mchunu made explosive allegations, claiming Malema is linked to fraud within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

Mchunu alleged that former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu told him that Malema and his associates were involved in looting municipal funds. According to Mchunu, more than R10 million is allegedly being fraudulently claimed every month from the municipality’s security department.

No evidence has been presented to support these claims, and Shivambu has not publicly responded. He left the EFF in 2024 and later joined uMkhonto weSizwe Party led by Jacob Zuma.

Mchunu further escalated tensions by declaring that Malema is not welcome in KwaZulu-Natal, accusing him of disrespecting KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The Economic Freedom Fighters in KwaZulu-Natal quickly hit back, rejecting Mchunu’s remarks and defending their leader.

EFF KZN spokesperson Mongezi Thwala dismissed the claims as baseless and dangerous.

“There is no Ngizwe who will declare KZN a no go area for the CIC and the EFF. This is not the first time he has made such unsubstantiated claims, especially during key political periods,” said Thwala.

The party warned that such statements risk inflaming tensions in a province already grappling with political violence.

“We are particularly disturbed by remarks suggesting that President Julius Malema is not welcome in KwaZulu-Natal. This province belongs to its people and remains a democratic space where leaders are free to engage communities without intimidation,” Thwala added.

The EFF has called on Mchunu to provide credible evidence to law enforcement authorities, warning that serious allegations should not be made without proof.

“Allegations of this magnitude cannot be tried in the court of public opinion. If there is evidence, it must be presented through proper legal channels. If not, such statements only damage reputations and destabilise public confidence,” said Thwala.

The situation continues to unfold as tensions rise between political voices and social commentators, with calls for accountability and restraint growing louder.

The urgent application brought by suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi to interdict his disciplinary hearing has been dismissed by the court.

Mkhwanazi sought to halt the proceedings on grounds of alleged unlawfulness, arguing that they were based on an employment contract that had already terminated.

Despite this claim, the court rejected the interdict, allowing the disciplinary process to proceed.

General Leutanant Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has raised explosive allegations about political interference in SAPS, compromised policing, and a direct threat to the safety of the people of South Africa . That is a warning about a country being pushed towards lawlessness.

Instead of confronting these issues you find cultishstic characters like Julius Malema doing what he always does when pressure mounts, insulting , deflecting , and making noise to sound clever .

Julius Malema must stop behaving like a man above the law. He is not a semi-god. He is an ordinary citizen like every South African and he must account like everyone else.

The allegations before Madlanga are serious and need accountability, his alleged links to security tenders in the city of Tshwane , Bucket Toilets in Ekurhuleni,

his relationship with senior police figures implicated in wrongdoing, and his aggressive attempts to discredit a senior officer raising national security concerns.

These are not matters for small rallies or Twitter theatrics they belong before the Madlanga Commission and thus our call to say Julius Malema must appear before the Madlanga Commission and answer, directly and under scrutiny. No slogans this time and No intimidation Nor political grandstanding.

What the country is dealing with here is bigger than individuals — it is about whether politicians are turning South Africa into a gangster state where networks of power, patronage, money, and law

Anyone found to be interfering with SAPS, manipulating law enforcement, or using political influence to shield wrongdoing must be rejected with their small organisations — decisively and without exception.

This is not about personalities. It is about the safety of the people of South Africa .No one — no matter how loud, how popular, or how self proclaimed to be feared is above the law!

We stand with the people of South Africa and General Leutanant Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi

The 18th edition of the awards marked a return to Durban after a seven year absence following the end of a previous hosting agreement in Johannesburg.

Several performers say it has now been four months since the ceremony, yet they are still awaiting payment for their services.

Nonhlanhla Patricia Matleng

One of the affected performers, Nonhlanhla Patricia Matleng, published an open letter on social media outlining her concerns. She stated that she had not received payment despite signing a formal agreement with the organisation on 16 November 2025.

“On the 26th of November 2025, we were formally hired by World Gospel Powerhouse to render our services at the Crown Gospel Awards. This was not a casual arrangement. A contract was drafted and agreed upon, clearly stating that payment would be made within 30 days after the recording,” she wrote.

Matleng further raised concerns about what she described as a lack of communication.

“What is even more disheartening is not just the non payment, but the complete lack of communication. We have made numerous attempts to reach out through calls and messages, but have been met with silence. Phones have been off, and there has been no effort to communicate, explain, or take accountability.”

Documents seen by MDN News indicate that each performer was to receive R10 000, including a R2 000 deposit upon signing and the remaining R8 000 due within 30 days after the event, specifically by 26 December 2025.

Larry Mhlanga, Crowns Gospel Music Awards Operations Manager

In response to the allegations, Crown Gospel Awards operations manager Larry Mahlanga said payments to artists are handled by the KwaZulu Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

“Truth is backing vocalists, lead artists and band members are paid directly by KZN Arts and Culture. We submitted over 42 artists to the department. They pay in batches. Nonhlanhla is on the list for upcoming payments,” he said.

However, the KwaZulu Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture disputed this claim.

MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula said the department was not responsible for organising the event and only provided support.

“The department of Sport, Arts and Culture in KZN and the Government of KwaZulu Natal were not the organisers of the event. We only gave assistance to the organisers. They themselves were responsible for all the logistics,” he said.

Khawula added that all departments that had committed support had honoured their obligations.

“I can confirm that all KZN departments that had made commitments to assist have honoured those commitments.”

Further claims suggest that only six individuals out of more than 40 staff members, including artists, instrumentalists, backing vocalists and technicians, received payment on 13 March 2026. These claims could not be independently verified.

At the time of publication, no formal legal action has been confirmed in relation to the matter. MDN News will update this story should further responses be received.

South Sudan’s First Vice President, Riek Machar, is facing treason and several other serious charges, sparking fears the country could slip back into civil war.

The UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan criticized the charges as “reckless,” warning they could undermine fragile peace efforts.

Machar has been under house arrest since March after President Salva Kiir accused him of plotting against the government. On Thursday, Kiir announced that Machar was suspended from his role as deputy due to the allegations.

Tensions have been rising as government troops clash with militias allegedly loyal to Machar. These groups emerged after a peace agreement was signed in 2018, a deal that has struggled to hold with elections repeatedly delayed.

Authorities accuse Machar and seven others of treason, murder, conspiracy, terrorism, destruction of public property, and crimes against humanity. The charges are linked to a violent attack in March when the White Army militia overran a government garrison in Upper Nile state, killing the commanding officer and others. Officials claim the assault was coordinated with Machar’s backing.

Observers warn that pursuing these charges could further destabilize South Sudan. Regional leaders have been pushing for dialogue to avoid a return to all-out conflict.

It remains unclear when Machar might face trial. His exact location is uncertain, and his supporters continue to demand his release.

Philip Meyburgh, who worked at Parker Manufacturing for more than two decades, was dismissed in mid-2024 following allegations that he manipulated company records to cover up large stock shortfalls. Investigators claimed he had processed unauthorized journal entries, masking discrepancies with false adjustments.

After his dismissal, Meyburgh attempted to access his pension savings through the Sygnia Umbrella Retirement Fund (SURF). But Parker intervened, asking that his benefits be frozen while it pursued a damages claim. Initially pegged at just under R4 million, the company later raised its claim to R9 million after an external audit suggested greater losses.

Meyburgh rejected the accusations, insisting that the irregularities were caused by technical issues in a new accounting system, insufficient training, and the pressures of managing a demanding environment. He argued that management had long been aware of his adjustments and never objected. He also maintained there was no legal basis to withhold his pension, as Parker had not yet secured a civil judgment against him.

Despite his objections, SURF sided with the employer, saying there was a reasonable chance Parker could succeed in its claim. Meyburgh then took his case to the Pension Fund Adjudicator, arguing that the decision was unfair and based on unproven allegations. The complaint was dismissed, with the adjudicator ruling that SURF had acted lawfully.

Still determined, Meyburgh escalated the matter to the Financial Services Tribunal. There, the tribunal found that SURF had given him a fair opportunity to respond and was within its rights to wait for the outcome of the civil proceedings. His application for reconsideration was dismissed.

For now, Meyburgh’s pension remains out of reach, pending the conclusion of the ongoing legal battle with his former employer.

A Pretoria prosecutor has been released on bail after being accused of taking a R1,000 bribe to make a criminal case disappear.

Thandwa Johanna Moseneke, 54, appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where she was granted bail of R3,500. She faces charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

The allegations date back to July 2021, when a man was arrested for stealing medicine from his employer. After securing his release on bail, he allegedly struck a deal with the investigating officer, agreeing to pay R5,000 to ensure the case never reached court.

According to investigators, the officer received part of the payment in cash and another portion via electronic transfer from the suspect’s wife. On the same day, the officer allegedly passed R1,000 to Moseneke in exchange for keeping the case off the court roll.

The case was later declined for prosecution, which raised suspicion and led the employer to file a complaint. An internal investigation exposed the payment and implicated both the officer and the prosecutor.

The officer was dismissed from the police service, later admitted to corruption in court, and received a five-year suspended sentence.

Following the revelations, Moseneke handed herself over to police on September 11, 2025. She was granted bail under strict conditions: she must not interfere with witnesses, must remain in Gauteng unless notifying authorities, must not apply for a new passport, and must not commit further offences.

The case has been postponed to December 8, 2025, for further investigation.
