South African rapper iFani, real name Mzayifani Boltina is making a long-awaited return to music with the release of his Shake Remix, arriving 13 years after his breakout hit “Shake” first dominated airwaves.

The revival comes as the original track trends again, introducing his catalogue to a new generation of listeners and reigniting interest in his unique sound.

Speaking about his comeback journey, iFani says the return has been defined by excitement and relief after slowly working his way back into the industry since 2023.

He reflects on stepping away in 2015 following a highly publicised beef with the late AKA, coupled with mental and physical exhaustion, which pushed him to reassess his life and career.

iFani also notes that tensions around his second album, which he says was pushed on him by Sony, contributed to the challenges that preceded his hiatus, with much of the strain only becoming clear after its release.

“In 2015 there was the beef with the late AKA coupled with my exhaustion mentally and physically. All that added to me wanting to take a break and re-assess myself,” iFani says.

During his time away, his perspective on music, fame and purpose shifted significantly. He focused on family life, simple joys, and personal growth, stepping back from the industry while finding peace away from the spotlight.

“Coming back into the music space has been a deeply humbling experience. I’m grateful for the love and support from fans who have stayed with me and those who are only discovering my journey now,” he says.

Seeing Shake trend again has been both heartwarming and exciting for iFani, who says it is especially meaningful as fans who once watched him perform at kids’ shows have now grown and continue to remember his work.

iFani believes the resurgence speaks to the timelessness of his sound, which he describes as deliberately unique and outside of trends. He explains that his artistic identity has always been about originality, from blending isiXhosa into rap to creating music for diverse audiences including children and elders.

He adds that his mission has long been to keep isiXhosa alive and engaging for younger generations, despite acknowledging both successes and failures along the way. He returns as a new signee at the label, Asanda Empires.

“This new chapter with Asanda Empires is about growth, purpose, and pushing my artistry further than ever before. There’s a lot of new music and creative work on the way, and I’m excited to share it with the world.”

The case involving the killing of Kiernan Forbes, widely known as AKA, and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane has taken a major step forward after being transferred to the Durban High Court.

Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on April 17, 2026, where the matter was officially moved to the higher court. This transition signals that the case is now progressing toward full trial proceedings.

The high-profile case has drawn widespread attention since the fatal shooting in February 2023, which left many shocked across the country. Prosecutors are expected to rely on a combination of forensic findings, CCTV footage, and cellphone data to link the accused to the crime.

A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for June 19, with the trial expected to begin in July. Both accused individuals remain in custody as the case continues to unfold.

The father of late award-winning rapper AKA, Tony Forbes, has expressed his “extreme disappointment” over the airing of his son’s final moments during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission last week.

The commission played CCTV footage capturing the murder of Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, alongside his close friend, celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Seven suspects have since been arrested in connection with the murders, which sent shockwaves across South Africa.

AKA and Tibz were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban on February 10, 2023, in what police have described as a targeted hit. While authorities confirmed that hitmen were allegedly paid to carry out the attack, the motive has not yet been publicly disclosed.

In a letter addressed to the commission, Forbes said that while he appreciates the work being done, the decision to broadcast the footage was careless and showed a lack of consideration for the family.

He is now seeking a formal explanation from the commissioners regarding the decision.

The footage was presented during the testimony of Gauteng Organised Crime Unit officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, who claimed to have worked on the case before it was later taken over by the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team.

Among those accused are brothers Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande and Malusi Dave Ndimande, who are key suspects in the case.

The pair allegedly fled South Africa and hid in Eswatini before being extradited back to the country in November 2025.

They are currently facing 24 charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful possession of firearms.

According to reports, Siyabonga Ndimande is alleged to have coordinated the firearms and the getaway vehicle, while Malusi Ndimande is accused of carrying out the fatal shooting.

Two brothers accused of killing award-winning rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane appeared in a South African court for the first time after being extradited from eSwatini.

Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande stood before a magistrate in Durban, where the State outlined that the men were brought back to face charges related to multiple cases. Their legal team requested time to consult with them, leading to the matter being postponed until November 25.

Police officials revealed that investigators are now tracking the financial trail behind the murders. According to authorities, a key figure believed to have coordinated the hit has already been identified.

Officials say this individual allegedly paid the entire hit squad through a business bank account. Investigations into the financial transactions are still ongoing.

Court officials also confirmed that human rights oversight was included in the extradition process to ensure the accused were treated lawfully throughout. However, the defense expressed concerns about accessing their clients under strict security conditions. The magistrate emphasised that the brothers are entitled to private consultations with their lawyers and that security should not obstruct this right.

The case will resume later in November, giving the defense team more time to prepare.
