The Enquiry was established by the President in terms of Section 12(6)(a) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act 32 of 1998. Its task is to determine whether Advocate Chauke remains a fit and proper person to hold office.

Proceedings wrapped up on Friday afternoon after the cross-examination of Advocate Sello Maema, the former North West Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions. Evidence Leader Advocate David Mtsweni completed his cross-examination, while Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC concluded the re-examination of the witness before the panel adjourned.

The Enquiry will resume on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at 09h00. The break will allow Advocate Chauke’s legal team time to finalise the witness statement of ballistics expert Lieutenant Chris Mangena. The statement is expected to be shared with all parties on Monday, 23 February 2026.

When proceedings continue, Advocate Ngcukaitobi is expected to lead Lieutenant Mangena’s evidence. The ballistics expert will present technical testimony relating to the Cato Manor cases, which form part of the matters under consideration.
