This latest action pushes the total number of dismissals to 63 since the formation of the Government of National Unity in July 2024. Authorities also revealed that 16 additional officials are currently suspended while investigations continue, some linked to findings from the Special Investigation Unit.

The department said the dismissals are part of a broader campaign to tackle corruption, maladministration, and unethical behaviour, working closely with law enforcement agencies to enforce accountability.

Since mid-2024, 95 misconduct cases have been opened, with 75 already finalised — a pace officials say reflects a tougher and more consistent approach to discipline within the system.

Schreiber stressed that the department is taking firm, visible action to repair long-standing institutional damage, noting that the swift handling of cases shows a clear shift in dealing with wrongdoing.

He also highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening internal controls, improving oversight, and modernising operations. According to the department, these changes are already beginning to improve service delivery.

While the crackdown continues, Schreiber emphasised that honest officials will be supported and rewarded, especially as the department pushes forward with its digital transformation plans.

The initiative forms part of a wider effort to rebuild public confidence in Home Affairs and ensure more transparent, efficient services for citizens.

A prayer service for the embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was held in Greyville Racecourse in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal(KZN) on Saturday.

The service was held in support of Mchunu, who has been on special leave since July, last year.

His leave emanates from allegations of interference in police activities and collusion with criminal elements.

The claims were made by the KZN police Commissioner Leuitenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that resulted in the establishment of a judicial commission to probe them.

Mchunu is alleged to have authprized the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 2024 without followign proper procedures.

Supporters and independent faith groups gathered to pray for his “deliverance” and strength during a period of intense scrutiny and political pressure.

 This followed a similar gathering in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, in February 2026 which was hailed as a success by organizer Sipho Nathi Mafuyela.

Another prayer was previously held at Mchunu’s home in eMpangeni, KZN.

Organizers state the prayers are meant to support Mchunu, who is “embattled” and on special leave, amid claims that the allegations against him are unfounded.

Spokesperson Sithembiso Mshengu confirmed that while Mchunu is aware of the services, they are not officially sanctioned by him but are conducted independently.

 At the center of a probe by the Madlanga Commission and a Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee is the allegations that he unilaterally disbanded the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in December 2024.

The situation led to intense political scrutiny, including calls from opposition parties for his dismissal and accusations of potential criminal implications.

The prayers have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporters rallying behind him while others argue that the focus should be on accountability and the truth.

Speaking to the attendees, controversial Podcast And Chill Network Co-Presenter Ngizwe Mchunu said he will never turn his back agaunst his own.

“I recieved a call informing me that there was a prayer for one of our own Senzo Mchunu about the problems he is facing. Pretenders will forever be there even in the bible they were there before us. This is a fight against the Zulu nation. If you wajt to fight Zulu’s , you have to divide them. Whether you are a Christian or not, you have to take this message, the day of Sabaath means life so when Sabaath is no longer bringing life than I don’t know what does it mean.

 “I don’t know him to be scandalous, I’m here to speak about my brother Senzo. To speak about what I know about him, if you have a problem with you must you must “voetsek”. I’m here to tell the history of Senzo Mchunu. He was the head of the province and there was never a time where there were scandalous stories about him. In 2004 the ANC ruled the province under his organusation,” he said.

Mchunu further said: “I’m not here to campaign for him. For the ANC to rule the province , for Jacob Zuma (former South African President) to win the Polokwane Conference, it was Senzo Mchunu who had the numbers. It was Senzo Mchunu who played the huge role for Zuma to become the President. Enemy is a very important item on earth. I don’t care who says what, but I want to tell you that there is no dustin for a human being. You stick with your brother through thick and thin. That is a power of life , that is a power of wisdom, that is a power of family,” he said.

Sakhile Shezi, the founder of Prayer For Senzo Mchunu.said that he had a vision that he must form a group to start a prayer line for Mchunu.

“It just a vision that came to me that I must start a prayer line. It then happened dawned on me that we must pray for Senzo Mchunu and his family. We have to respect and applaud President Cyril Ramaphosa for establishing the Ad hoc Committee and the Madlanga Committee, we will have to respect the outcomes of both Madlanga and Adhoc Committee,” he said while explaining how the prayer line was formed.

It was the responsibility of President Cyril Ramaphosa and the state to ensure that South African citizens were brought back home. That is a constitutional duty, nothing more and nothing less. Now that they are back, the country must decide how to move forward.

Those who recruited and misled them must be held fully accountable under South African law. Exploiting young men and exposing the country to international complications is reckless and unacceptable.

At the same time, the Minister responsible for the South African National Defence Force must now think carefully and act strategically. These 17 brothers have fought a real war. They are returning with lived combat exposure. There should be a structured military and security assessment process, and if they meet the standards, they should be formally integrated into the SANDF.

Experience matters. Modern warfare is not theory, it is reality. If properly vetted, trained further, and disciplined within official command structures, they could strengthen our defence capability. When they are fully prepared and cleared, they could even help lead troops where South Africa has commitments, including in the DRC.

We must also be honest about regional dynamics. South Africa has faced serious security challenges in the region, and tensions involving leaders such as Paul Kagame have raised difficult questions about sovereignty and the safety of our troops. The killing of our soldiers cannot simply be brushed aside. We must regroup, reassess, and strengthen our military readiness. Paul Kagame terrorised us, bullied us, and even killed our people in DRC

Many who claim veteran status in structures aligned to the uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association and even within the African National Congress have never seen modern frontline combat. Titles alone do not build a capable defence force.

National security is not a slogan. It requires discipline, accountability, strategic thinking, and a serious commitment to strengthening the South African National Defence Force for the challenges ahead.

The Remember When It Rains producer and Businessman and former ANC Gauteng Treasury Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza, were fingered by suspended Head of Legal and Risk Services Kemi Behari that they unduly benefitted over R100 million in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Responding to the allegations, Dj Sbu

“I, Sbusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope WeNkosi, hereby issue this statement in response to the false, misleading, and unsubstantiated allegations that have been circulated in the public domain by the suspended Head of Legal and Risk Services at the City of Ekurhuleni, Advocate Kemi Behari.

These allegations, which attempt to implicate myself and businessman Thembinkosi TK Nciza, are entirely false, defamatory, and without any factual basis,” he wrote.

Leope denied any involvement in wrongdoing, misconduct, or unethical activity of any kind.

“Throughout my career in broadcasting, entrepreneurship, and public service, I have conducted myself with integrity, transparency, and respect for the law. My work across media, business, and community development has always been guided by principles of accountability and positive social impact.

“I am deeply concerned that these allegations appear to be part of an attempt to divert attention from ongoing internal matters and personal accountability issues by creating false narratives involving respected public figures,” he wrote.

Leope said he never participated in any illegal activity, have not benefited from any improper conduct, have not influenced any legal or administrative processes unlawfully and have not colluded with any individual or institution inappropriately.

He said any suggestion to the contrary is a fabrication.

“I reserve all my legal rights and remedies in relation to these defamatory statements and will not hesitate to pursue appropriate action should these false claims continue to damage my reputation and personal brand. I remain confident that due process, truth, and transparency will ultimately prevail.

“I urge the public, media, and stakeholders to exercise caution, verify facts, and avoid amplifying unverified claims that serve only to mislead and harm innocent parties.

My focus remains on serving my audience, building ethical businesses, creating employment, and contributing meaningfully to the development of our society,” he wrote.

Leope said he will continue to cooperate fully with any lawful investigation and welcome any process that is grounded in fairness, evidence, and justice.

Ekurhuleni Legal Head Advocate Kemi Behari testified at the Madlanga Commission that a disciplinary investigation into Ekurhuleni senior manager Mojapelo was abruptly closed despite evidence of misconduct.

The probe concerned over R100 million in municipal grants for events, which Behari said allegedly benefited celebrities TK Nciza and DJ Sbu Leope.

““All investigations have been blocked. And that is why now I’m facing repercussions because Nciza mentioned one thing,” Behari told the commission.

Behari explained he became involved in the labour matter concerning Mojapelo, then COO, under instructions from his HOD and the HR HOD, not the city manager.

“The only time I was involved in labour matters was when it dealt with a senior manager. Nciza had close ties to Mojapelo, which complicated efforts to pursue the investigation. Attempts to secure witnesses for the SIU report were unsuccessful,” he said.

According to Behari, TK Nciza applied pressure to prevent accountability.

“The only people we can call now are TK Nciza and Sbu Leope, because they’re the ones the evidence is pointing to as having benefited from this entire thing,” he said.

Behari said his HOD later pulled him aside and told him the matter had been settled, effectively halting the investigation.

Behari also addressed broader governance issues, including flawed public participation on special levies, which he said caused Ekurhuleni to lose around R200 million.

“You put in a special levy, then only when Tembisa’s uprising happened did you decide to go back. But your initial process of public participation was flawed,” he explained.

Behari is facing claims that he received a massive loyalty bonus of R600,000 to make sure a disciplinary case against a suspended Deputy Police Chief Julius Mkhwanazi didn’t go anywhere.

Behari was placed on precautionary suspension with full pay following testimony that linked him to the alleged obstruction of disciplinary processes within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD).

The primary allegation against Behari is that he played a key role in preventing disciplinary action against Mkhwanazi, who was repeatedly linked to alleged misconduct, including the controversial authorisation of blue lights for private security vehicles and other irregularities.

Former head of employee relations Xolani Nciza, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa all told the commission that Behari and his cronies which include Former City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi, Head of Human Resources Linda Gxasheka were blocking any disciplinary measures concerning Mkhwanazi.

According to Mapiyeye, this group frustrated internal accountability processes and, instead, he himself became the subject of repeated suspensions.

He further testified that the pressure escalated to the point where he faced a sexual harassment charge in November 2024, which he claims was used to remove him from office while Mkhwanazi remained protected.

Spies delivered some of the commission’s most explosive testimony, describing parts of the EMPD as operating like a “criminal enterprise.”

He told the commission that senior municipal officials, including those within legal services, shielded certain officers from accountability.

Spies named Behari as part of a network that allegedly ensured Mkhwanazi and others were insulated from investigation and discipline, despite serious allegations being raised internally.

Nciza further implicated Behari, testifying that all disciplinary investigations involving Mkhwanazi were required to pass through Behari for approval.

Nciza said this effectively gave Behari control over whether investigations proceeded, stalled, or stopped entirely.

He also testified that during this period, both Behari and HR head Linda Gxasheka received significant salary increases, which he suggested raised serious questions about incentives and loyalty within the system.

Thepa did not directly accuse Behari, but her testimony provided important context about the internal environment at EMPD.

Thepa told the commission that she was subjected to smear attempts after becoming involved in investigations linked to the Cat Matlala blue light scandal.

Thepa told the commission that at some stage her life was in danger and even received death threaths that she will be burnt alive after she began questioning the Cat Matlala’s Cat VIP contract.

The Judicial Service Commission has confirmed that Ledwaba will be interviewed for the position in April 2026. Members of the public, along with legal bodies, have been invited to submit comments on whether he is suitable for the role before the 12 March deadline.

Ledwaba’s candidacy has drawn renewed attention because his name surfaced during testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating claims of corruption, political interference and criminal activity within parts of the criminal justice system.

At the commission, a witness alleged that R2.5 million was set aside to influence the bail decision of alleged crime kingpin Katiso “KT” Molefe. The claim raised serious questions about judicial independence, although the witness later acknowledged there was no direct evidence linking the money to Ledwaba or to any specific individual.

Ledwaba has firmly rejected all allegations against him. He has denied receiving any money or acting improperly in relation to the bail matter and has pushed to give his version of events before the commission. He has also resisted calls to step aside from his judicial duties while the inquiry continues.

Legal watchdogs and civil society organisations say the controversy underlines the importance of strict ethical standards in the judiciary. Despite the concerns, no formal process to investigate judicial misconduct has been initiated.

As the JSC interview date approaches, attention is expected to intensify. Ledwaba’s possible appointment comes at a sensitive moment, with public trust in judicial integrity and accountability under sharp scrutiny.

The residents has been forced to seek shelter in the Randgate Boxing Club and at the local community hall in Kagiso in the West Rand.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African Transformation Movement (ATM) said they are deeply troubled to witness the displacement of approximately 300 families, primarily women and children who have been forced to flee their homes due to threats of violence and kidnapping from these so-called Zama zamas.

“The ATM is appalled by the apparent lack of intervention from our armed forces and law enforcement agencies in addressing this crisis. The failure to protect South African citizens on their own soil raises serious concerns about national security and the effectiveness of our intelligence services. It is unacceptable that our communities are left vulnerable to external threats, leading to fear and instability,” said ATM Spokesperson Zama Ntshona.

Ntshona said: “We call on the government to take immediate and decisive action to restore safety and security for all South Africans. This includes deploying law enforcement to the affected areas, providing necessary support to displaced families and ensuring that perpetrators of such violence are held accountable.”

The ATM and the EFF urges all South Africans to stand united in defending our communities against criminal elements that seek to undermine our safety and sovereignty. We cannot allow fear to dictate our lives or our future.

“The EFF Gauteng has taken note, with serious concern, of the deeping humanitarian and security crisis confronting residents of Sporong, in the Kagiso Area in West Rand. This crisis arises from violent intimidation, terror, and forceful displacement carried out by illegal miners, commonly known as Zama-zamas.

“We call for immediate humanitarian assistance to address their urgent needs. The overcrowded conditions in the Randgate community hall pose serious health risks and require urgent attention from local and national authorities,” said EFF Gauteng Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga.
