Media Statement POLOKWANE – The swift action by a police officer attached to the Polokwane Flying Squad Unit led to the apprehension of five carjacking suspects and the recovery of robbed items and a firearm used during the crime committed on 08 December 2024 at about 06:00 at Motinti, Seshego policing precinct. It is alleged that the officer, upon receiving a call from the Tracker company regarding a vehicle that had been hijacked at Motinti Village, immediately acted on the information with the assistance of the Tracking company personnel. While tracking the stolen vehicle, the officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the hijacked one. They tactically stopped the vehicle and arrested all four occupants, including the driver. Backup was promptly requested from other police officers. The team then proceeded to Motinti, where another suspect was found in possession of items taken from the hijacked vehicle, as well as the firearm used during the carjacking. The case has been handed over to Polokwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) for further investigation. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has lauded the collaboration between SAPS and Tracker Company which led to arrests, seizure of firearm and robbed items. The five suspects, ages 31 to 35, will appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Tuesday, 10 December 2024, on charges of carjacking, possession of unlicensed firearm, and possession of suspected stolen property.
