Media Statement GQEBERHA – Swift response by Police nets four arrests and the confiscation of stolen goods and an unlicensed firearm minutes after a business robbery in Gqeberha. This follows after a business robbery that occurred yesterday, 23 July 2024, at about 11:00, when two unknown males entered a chain store inside Pier 14 Shopping Complex in Govan Mbeki Avenue, North End, Gqeberha. One of the suspects showed a firearm while the other had a hammer and proceeded to rob the store. They then smashed the glass display cabinet and took laptops, cellphones, and cameras to the estimated value of over R100 000. During the robbery in the shop, they were joined by three more suspects outside, and they fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla. About 15 minutes later, members attached to Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit tracked the vehicle and spotted it at St Leonards Road, Algoa Park and immediately arrested four male suspects aged between 20 and 40. Upon searching the vehicle, members have recovered 15 laptops, 37 cellphones, and three cameras. Thorough investigation led police in recovering an unlicensed firearm (7.65 mm pistol) and a replica firearm. Police are investigating cases of business robbery, possession of stolen goods, and possession of unlicensed firearm. These suspects are due to appear at Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 25 July 2024. Ends
