Media Statement GQEBERHA – Four suspects were apprehended, and a 39-year-old victim was rescued from kidnappers on Wednesday evening, 04 December 2024, at SAPS Algoa Park. It is alleged that on abovementioned date at approximately 17:50, in Stanford Road, Korsten an accident occurred between a blue Citroen and a Toyota Quantum minibus. After the accident the occupants of the minibus took the driver of the Citroen and forced him into their minibus and drove off with him, they also took his blue Citroen vehicle. The suspects drove towards Govan Mbeki in North End and another female suspect got into the minibus. The victim was assaulted, and they contacted his mother and demanded R15 000 for his safe return or he will be killed. The mother reported the kidnapping to SAPS Algoa Park, the information of blue Citroen was circulated and later the vehicle was recovered in KwaZakele. At approximately 01:00 today, the driver of the Toyota Quantum went to Algoa Park SAPS to report the accident that occurred in Stanford Road and was unaware that Police already knew about what had transpired during the accident. While Police were obtaining statements from the driver, station members went outside to the vehicle and ordered the passengers out of the vehicle. It was at this moment when the police members found the victim that was kidnapped and assaulted. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has been discharged. The four suspects (three males and one female), aged between 32 and 46, were arrested of hijacking, kidnapping, extortion and assault. The members confiscated the Toyota Quantum for further investigation. The suspects will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate court on Friday 06 December 2024. The Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Brig Ronald Koll commended the SAPS Algoa Park members for their alertness that led to the rescue of the victim and that those responsible are brought to book.
