Suspended Sunday Times editor Makhudu Sefara has stepped down as chair of the South African National Editors’ Forum following a statement from the Special Investigating Unit in which allegations of misappropriation of funds were raised against him and others.
SANEF convened a meeting earlier this evening, during which Sefara was given an opportunity to present his version of events.
He denied the allegations but offered to step down.
Deputy chair Tshamano Makhadi has been appointed acting chair.
SANEF said it has appointed an independent legal team to assess the evidence and report back as soon as possible.
