Media Statement CAPE TOWN – On Friday 15 March 2024 at about 23:30, members attached to Operation Shanela deployed in Harare precinct to quell the ongoing gang violence and incidents of extortion, pursued information of an illegal firearm at an address in Town 2, Khayelitsha. Upon arrival, the members searched the identified premises and confiscated a firearm with ammunition found hidden underneath a pillow in the bedroom. An adult male was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court once he has been charged. In an unrelated intervention, members of Atlantis SAPS arrested an adult male for the unlawful possession of a firearm in Bouna Crescent, Atlantis on Friday evening. The members were busy with stop and search operations in the Atlantis policing precinct in a bid to combat gang violence in the area when they stopped and searched the suspect. They found him in possession of a firearm with ammunition. The suspect failed to produce a valid firearm license at the time of his arrest. Once charged, he will make his first court appearance in the Atlantis Magistrates’ court. Ends
