Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance by members attached to Milnerton police led to the arrest of a 40-year-old male in connection of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in Impala Street, Rugby, Milnerton on Thursday, 21 November 2024. The members performed crime prevention patrols when they spotted a suspicious vehicle, stationary at the end of the street. The members approached the vehicle and identified one of the three occupant of the vehicle as a person of interest, allegedly involved in extortion related offences in the Joe Slovo area. The members ensued with a search of the suspects and discovered a firearm in a holster and 26 rounds of ammunition which the person of interest carried in a moon bag. The members seized the firearm and ammunition and had to restrain the suspect who fought the members to evade arrest. The 40-year-old suspect subsequently faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as assault on police member. He is scheduled to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 November 2024 on mentioned charges. Ends
