WESTERN CAPE – The determination by police officers in the Western Cape to create a safe and secure environment for all inhabitants in the province yielded success when they arrested suspects for possession of drugs and dealing in liquor on Tuesday, 01 October 2024. Members were chasing a hijacked motor vehicle with three occupants from Town 2 direction Makhaza. The vehicle stopped next to Makhaza library, and the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran between the shacks behind the library and disappeared. The members chased after the suspects on foot but just picked up a black firearm with 13x 9mm rounds and a black jacket between the shacks. The firearm was identified by the victim as the firearm that was used during the hijacking. No arrest has been made. The firearm was seized and booked in as exhibit at Lingelethu-West SAPS. The car was booked in at Stikland Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) for further investigation. In an unrelated matter, members attached to POPS Faure arrested two foreign national males aged 28 and 40 on Tuesday, 01 October 2024 at about 11:30 at Parksig Villas, Bellville for the possession of dagga and dealing in drugs. According to reports, the members received information from a reliable source that the occupants of a flat are selling and dealing in dagga. They immediately followed up the information, searched the flat and found an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime, three sachets tik, half of a mandrax tablet, 23 sachets dagga and half a bag of dagga. Philippi East Crime Prevention Unit members arrested a 34-year-old woman for dealing in liquor on 01 October 2024 at about 19:30 at a premises in Remainder Street, Island, Philippi East The members received information that liquor is being sold without a valid liquor license at the mentioned address. They went to the address and found the woman busy selling liquor, and when asked to show her liquor license, she could not produce any. She was arrested and detained at Philippi East SAPS on the mentioned charge. The suspects are due to appear in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ court, respectively, on the mentioned charges.
