POLOKWANE – In a concerted efforts to eradicate the illegal firearms across the Province, police arrested four suspects and confiscated firearms and ammunitions at Morebeng, Sekgosese and in the Lephalale policing areas, on Friday, 10 January 2025. The suspects were arrested following an intelligence driven operation conducted while tracing wanted suspects. Investigations found that a 28-year-old male suspect sold a stolen firearm to a male foreign national aged 38, and they were both arrested at Thakgalang no 1, in Sekgosese. One pistol was confiscated at the Ethopian foreign national owner of spaza shop. In a related matter, further information led to the arrest of two other male foreign national suspects aged 32 and 38 at Morebeng area. This is after the two suspects were involved in hiding the recovered stolen firearm (01×pistol) at their rented place. Meanwhile, members of Lephalale K9 Unit and Lephalale Public Order Policing arrested a 28-year-old man on 09 January 2025 at Mohlasedi village in the Tomburke policing area. He was found in possession of a suspected stolen grinder. Investigations revealed that the recovered grinder was among other stolen items recently at one of the farms in Lephalale area. Through investigations, on the 10 January 2025, Police recovered 2 x point 22 Remington rifles at Marapong Extension 01, and three suspects aged 23 and 28 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms. The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has praised the members who took part in ensuring that the firearms are removed from the hands of the criminals and for arresting them. The suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 January 2025, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions. Police investigations continue. Ends
