Several suspects linked to the tragic murder of Zovuyo Mbana made their court appearance this week as they apply for bail.
Zovuyo’s death earlier drew widespread shock and public attention after she was found deceased in disturbing circumstances.
The accused — Temoso Manamela, Aviwe Jilingise, Ramodi Rethabile Gladys, and George Jude Plaatjies — are all facing charges connected to the case. During the bail hearing, lawyers for both sides presented their arguments while the accused hope to be released on bail as investigations continue. One of the accused, who works as a school principal, told the court that staying in custody is severely disrupting school operations, including staff salaries and day-to-day running of the institution.
He also highlighted personal struggles, such as health and dietary challenges while detained, and explained how his absence is putting a heavy burden on his family.
He mentioned needing to support his wife, children, and an elderly relative. The prosecution, however, is expected to strongly oppose the bail applications. With investigations still ongoing and the gravity of the murder charges, the State believes the accused should remain in custody for now. The case continues to attract significant interest as it unfolds.
