Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The determination by members of the South African Police Service to rid communities of the illegal drug trade saw the arrest of a 45-year-old female on Thursday, 13 June 2024. Members of Operation Shanela searched a premise in Suiderkruis Street, Eersteriver after they received information about drugs that are stored at the premises. Upon searching the house they found 165 packets containing crystal meth, one plastic bag containing 28 grams crystal meth, 40 mandrax tablets and five parcels dagga weighing at 250 grams. A 45-year-old female was arrested for the possession of drugs. She will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court once she has been charged. In an unrelated matter members of Public Order Police searched an informal dwelling in the Nkanini informal settlement, Khayelitsha yesterday, after they received information about firearms at the premises. While searching the premises they found 98 high calibre rounds in a plastic bottle hidden behind a wall panel. A 41-year-old suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition. He will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
