WESTERN CAPE – Members of the Maitland Flying Squad followed up information on Saturday night, 15 February 2025, about two occupants in a white Chevrolet vehicle who are in possession of a firearm at a fast food restaurant in Athlone. They proceeded to the address and found the identified vehicle and searched the occupants and the vehicle. A .22 pistol with ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash were found inside the vehicle. Both suspects age 33 were arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. They will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once they have been charged. In an unrelated matter members of Operation Restore arrested a 41-year-old SAPS member attached to Belhar SAPS when he was found in possession of 11 packets containing cocaine in Navara Street, Belhar. The members searched the premises and found the suspect in possession of the drugs. He is also facing a charge of failing to safeguard a firearm.
The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Monday on the mentioned charges.
