Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – With the launch of the Western Cape Safer Festive Season on Thursday, 18 October 2024, police members embarked on crime prevention operations to combat crime over the weekend. On Sunday, 20 October 2024, members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted stop and search operations in Vahalla Park to combat gang violence when they noticed two males walking in the road and when they saw the police vehicles they started running. The members chased them on foot and apprehended one of the males. Upon searching him they found a firearm with seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. They arrested a 16-year-old male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ today on the mentioned charges. In an unrelated intervention, members of Operation Shanela searched a premises in Hohenort Court, Daniel Ottery, on Sunday and arrested a 42 year old man for dealing in drugs and possession of counterfeit money. The members responded to information they received about drug activities at the premises and ensued with a search of the premises. They confiscated 24 mandrax tablets, seven half mandrax tablets, ten gram crystal meth, R15 400 in counterfeit money and a undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged. Ends
