Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – An intelligence driven operation by members of Worcester SAPS and the Boland K9 Unit led to the arrest of an adult male when he was caught with a unlicensed firearm with ammunition in his possession on Friday, 03 January 2025. The members gathered information about a minibus taxi that is on its way from Cape Town and one of the occupants is in possession of a firearm. The minibus taxi was stopped in Rainier Street and one male jumped out and started to run. The members gave chase and apprehended the male. They searched him and found a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention members of Manenberg SAPS and Law Enforcement arrested a 22-year-old male when he was searched during stop and search operations in the Manenberg area. He was found in possession of 25 rounds of ammunition. He face a charge for the illegal possession of ammunition.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Worcester and Athlone Magistrates’ courts on Monday.
