Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance by members of the Makhaza Carjacking Team landed three suspects behind bars for the possession of a hijacked vehicle on Friday afternoon. The members noticed a Nissan NP200 light delivery vehicle at the braai stands in Makhaza which raised a concern. Surveillance was kept on the vehicle and three males got into the vehicle. The members stopped the vehicle and investigations revealed that the vehicle was hijacked and used to commit crime in different parts of Cape Town. The three suspects aged between 34 and 36 were arrested for the possession of a hijacked vehicle. They will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court on Monday. In an unrelated matter, members of the Maitland Flying Squad tried to stop a silver Volkswagen Polo on the corners of NY108 and NY06, Gugulethu on Friday night but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and sped off. The passengers in the vehicle started shooting at the police vehicle. The police members returned fire wounding one suspect. The driver of the vehicle made an accident in NY50 and two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran in between the houses. Upon searching the vehicle the members found handbags, laptops and wallets in the vehicle. An adult male was arrested for the possession of stolen property and attack on police.
He is due to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.
