WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to rid the streets of the Western Cape of the illegal possession of firearms, which in the hands of criminals post a threat to the lives of its inhabitants, landed two suspects behind bars on Monday, 01 April 2024. Members of Lingelethu West police responded to information they received from a member of the public about a male person that is robbing people with a firearm. This information led the members to a location in Spine Road where they apprehended the suspect fitting the description provided. Upon searching the suspect, they found a pistol in his possession. He faces a charge related to the illegal possession of a firearm. In an unrelated intervention, members of Grassy Park police arrested an adult male when he was found in possession of an imitation firearm and ammunition during a stop and search operation conducted in De Wet Road, Ottery on the same day.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Wynberg Magistrates’ courts once they have been charged.
