Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The determination by members attached to Delft Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) to keep their communities safe and to ensure that all those who attempt to commit crime are put behind bars, turned out to be successful when they arrested four suspects on numerous charges. On Thursday 11 July 2024, members were busy with crime prevention patrols in Tyne Street, Delft behind Bomu Street when they heard gun shots nearby. The members headed to the direction where the gun shots were coming from and upon arrival found a person laying in the road. A community member informed them that the suspects fled the scene in a white Nissan sedan. The members gave chase and spotted the vehicle, fitting the description, in Symphony Way. The occupants started shooting at the members and police members returned fire. The suspects sped off towards Eland Street where they collided with a delivery vehicle, forcing them to a halt. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran away while the remaining three suspects, aged 20, were arrested on charges of attempted murder, attack on police, reckless and negligence driving and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Two of the suspects sustained injuries during the incident as a result of the shooting that occurred. A .38 special revolver with ammunition and a gas pistol were recovered in possession of the suspects. The fourth suspect was arrested at Delft SAPS when he attempted to open a false case of vehicle hijacking. The four suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Monday 15 July 2024 on the mentioned charges. Ends
