Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Continuous efforts to reduce the illegal distribution of drugs and prohibited firearms in our streets generated a positive outcome when members attached to the Anti-Economical and Extortion task team arrested four suspects on firearm and drug related matters. On Tuesday 21 May 2024, members swiftly responded to information received about a firearm being kept at a premises in Vukani Street, Zwelitsha, Nyanga East. Upon arrival at the premises members conducted a thorough search upon which they found and seized a 9mm parabellum pistol with its serial number removed and 9 mm rounds in the toilet’s ceiling. Three adult males suspects who were found inside the premises were arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition. In a separate incident, members followed up on information received about drug dealings at a premises in Zwelitsha Drive, Nyanga, where they found one suspect with 44 Boss mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R3520. The 41 year old suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs. The suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges once charged. Ends
