QUMBU – A tactical withdrawal by TRT members from an operation in Chulunca locality – Qumbu on Thursday, 28 November 2024 at about 01:50 led them to a bakkie with three male occupants, aged between 30 and 47 loaded with twenty one (21) suspected stolen sheep. The three suspects led police to Middle Tyirha locality, Blackhill A/A where six (06) more sheep were found in a certain homestead with a 30-year-old male suspect of Kwatuku locality arrested. Also found in his possession was an unlicensed 9mm Norincho pistol with ammunition. On the second homestead, fifty six (56) sheep were recovered with a 33-year-old suspect arrested. The suspect also had an unlicensed firearm with ammunition having a filed off serial number. Another licensed firearm was recovered and confiscated from another suspect and it has to be sent for ballistic testing. The 47-year-old suspect of Nkonkweni locality was charged for possession of suspected stolen stock (sheep) only whilst others had added charges of possession of unlicensed firearms with ammunition. A total of 96 suspected stolen sheep were confiscated including the bakkie used in the commission of crime by Qumbu Stock Theft unit. The three suspects are due to appear in the Qumbu magistrate’s court very soon. The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Modishana commended his members for the sterling work, reiterating his stance that crime must be fought in all fronts and arresting all criminals involved.
