Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Members of the Provincial Anti-Economical Crimes and Counterfeit Goods Task Team in the Cape Town Central Business District conducted compliance inspections in Loop Street on Monday morning, 27 January 2025, checking for documentation of foreign nationals. They searched the premises and found a pistol with ammunition in one of the rooms. The adult male could not provide a valid firearm license or valid documentation to be in the country. He was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and contravention of the immigration act. The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. In an unrelated matter members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search operations in Grindel Avenue, Lavender Hill on Saturday, 25 January 2025, when they saw people running. They went to investigate what is happening when the members saw the suspect running with the firearm in his hand. The suspect was chased and apprehended with the revolver and ammunition in his possession. He made a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today. Ends
