Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Continued efforts to rid the community of Delft from firearms that are the root cause of serious and violent crime led to the arrests of seven suspects on Monday, 23 September 2024. Members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention patrols in the Delft policing precinct when they heard gunshots going off in the nearby vicinity. The members drove in the direction of the sound of the gunshots and noticed a Toyota Quantum that was parked next to the road. When the driver of the vehicle noticed the police vehicle approaching he sped off. A high speed chase ensued and the vehicle was brought to a halt. The vehicle and the occupants of the vehicle were searched and two 9mm pistols with ammunition were found in the vehicle. The occupants could not give account for the firearms in the vehicle and was subsequently arrested. The seven adult males face charges for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged. Ends
