Media Statement FREE STATE – A 49-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Regional Court on 22 May 2024 on charges of fraud and contravention of the Tax Administration Act after being served with summons on 29 April 2024. It is alleged that the South African Revenue Services assigned an internal investigator to investigate the suspect for possible tax offenses. The outcome of the investigation revealed that the suspect committed fraud and contravened the Tax Administrafion Act during the tax period between 01 January 2016 and 01 January 2022 by under declaring and or not declaring output on VAT. As a result, SARS was prejudiced and suffered a total loss to the amount of R64 132.65.
A case docket was registered and referred to the Serious Commercial Crime Unit in Bloemfontein for further probe. Ends
