Suspect Rearrested After Stolen Chery Omoda Intercepted On N1
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Polokwane after police intercepted a stolen Chery Omoda worth about R400,000 on the N1 near Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Police said the vehicle was recovered on Friday during an intelligence-driven operation involving the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security companies.
The vehicle had allegedly been stolen in Sandton, Gauteng, and was being driven towards the Beitbridge border, according to police.
The suspect was allegedly driving without a valid licence and using false registration plates.
Police said the man had previously been arrested in March after he was allegedly found driving a stolen Range Rover towards Beitbridge. He was later released on bail.
He is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 September, facing charges including possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, driving without a valid licence and fraud relating to the vehicle’s registration plates.
The latest arrest follows a series of operations targeting the movement of stolen vehicles along the N1 towards Limpopo and the Beitbridge border.
The latest suspect has not been named. Police investigations are continuing.
