Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Western Cape, Major General Mathipa Makgato welcomed the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of Constable Ayanda Moyikwa, who was stationed at the Airport Border Police. It is reported that on 12 January 2025, the Constable was on his way to collect a colleague in Gcuwa Ext 6, Mfuleni, as they were scheduled to report for duty. While driving his private vehicle, he witnessed a robbery in progress at Gcuwa Street. During the robbery, a member of the public was assaulted and robbed of his cell phone and R100 cash. The suspects were described as two unknown African males. Constable Moyikwa then reversed his vehicle and parked at 7157 Gcuwa Street, Ext 6. The suspects approached his vehicle and shot him once in the head. He was robbed of his cell phone. During further investigation, a suspect was identified and a J50 warrant of arrest was obtained as well as executed. The suspect was traced to Pollsmoor Prison where he was arrested, today 20 March 2025. The accused will be making his first appearance on 24 March 2025 on charges of murder and robbery. The accused remains in custody on unrelated matter. Ends
