Suspect Linked To First of 9 Ekurhuleni Women Murders Confirmed as Foreign National
South African law enforcement authorities have confirmed that a prime suspect currently in custody in connection with a horrific string of femicides is a foreign national.
The breakthrough comes as the South African Police Service (SAPS) intensifies its investigation into the murders of nine women whose bodies have been discovered across the Ekurhuleni municipality over the last two months.
According to Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, early indications heavily tie the detained individual to the very first murder in the grim timeline, which took place in July.
The victim was found naked in an open field near Kempton Park, having been restrained with cable ties.
“We are currently obtaining fingerprints from both police and prison records to officially verify the absolute identity and legal nationality status of the suspect in custody,” Mosikili stated during a media briefing.
