A suspect linked to a cash-in-transit robbery and multiple murders was fatally shot in Glenwood, Durban, following a shootout with police on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the suspect was involved in a robbery on the N2 Highway, south of Durban, and was being pursued by law enforcement. Police acted on leads related to vehicles spotted fleeing the robbery scene. Officers intercepted one of the vehicles at an intersection in Glenwood, but the suspects fired at police, prompting a return of fire.
During the exchange, one suspect was killed, while the other was injured and taken to the hospital. No police officers were harmed in the confrontation.
The suspects are also connected to a triple murder in the Ntambanana area in January 2025, as well as a double murder that occurred in June 2024 in the same region.
In connection with the robbery, a hijacked vehicle used in the crime was discovered abandoned in Mariannhill, containing what appeared to be money bags. The crime scene has not yet been fully processed.
