Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL: On Thursday, 29 November 2024, the Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested a 19-year old suspect for dealing in drugs on Peter Kerchhoff Street in Pietermaritzburg. The arrest was made following the receipt of intelligence information about a person suspected of dealing drugs in the area. The members of the Hawks conducted a disruptive operation and proceeded to the address mentioned in the tip-off. While at the location, the members spotted an individual who matched the description provided in the intelligence information. Upon approaching and searching the suspect, they discovered ten zip-lock bags containing suspected crack cocaine, with an estimated street value of R1000-00 and R400-00 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and charged with dealing in drugs. He is expected to appear before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates court on 29 November 2024.
The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona commended the members for the good work.
