Suspect found guilty and sentenced for dealing in drugs

GAUTENG – Thabo Matsoso (32), has been sentenced by the Vanderbijlpark Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, for contravention of Section 5(b) Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, Act 140 of 1992 (dealing in drugs).

On 14 May 2024 members from the Sedibeng task team and Crime Intelligence intercepted a white Toyota Quantum driven by Matsoso. Once granted permission to search the vehicle, police discovered (27) packets of drugs (nyaope) and a cash amount of over R2500. The Toyota Quantum that was driven by the suspect was seized and later returned to the rightful owner.

Matsoso was granted R5000 bail in May 2024. On Tuesday, 18 February 2025 the court found Matsoso guilty and sentenced him to a fine of R20 000 or 12 months imprisonment. The court also declared Matsoso unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103(2) of Act 60 of the Firearms control Act, Act 60 of 2000.
