WESTERN CAPE – Efforts by the Western Cape police to stop the illegal distribution of drugs and to put the perpetrators behind bars yielded positive results when members attached to Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit seized drugs with an estimated street value of R58 400. On Friday, 02 August 2024 members were conducting crime prevention patrols in Ottery area when they received information about a man suspected to be in possession of drugs at a premises in Hector Avenue and Edward Road, Ottery. The members swiftly responded to the information received and upon arrival at the identified address, they spotted a male who fitted the description standing on the field with a black plastic bag in his right hand. The suspect then walked into a nearby yard and stood behind a makeshift fence. The members approached him, and he dropped the bag in an attempt to get away. They caught him and picked up the plastic bag, and upon inspection they found 400 mandrax tablets and 480 packets of tik with an estimated street value of R58 400.The suspect was arrested for being in possession of drugs, and he will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court today 05 August 2024 on the mentioned charge.
