Suspect behind bars for the possession for a prohibited firearm and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – The constant determination by the Western Cape police to eliminate illegal firearms and ammunition in our communities and to put the perpetrators of the law behind bars produced positive results as members arrested an adult male and confiscated a firearm and ammunition.

On Thursday 16 January 2025 at about 20:40, the members were busy with patrols in Riverview, Worcester when they came across a suspicious looking men who started to run away upon spotting the patrol vehicle approaching. The members gave chase and one of the suspects threw away a firearm. The members caught him and went back to where he threw the firearm where they found a 9mm pistol with its serial number removed and 9mm rounds of ammunition. He was then arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

He will appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court once charged on the mentioned charges.
