Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Efforts by the members attached to Maitland Flying Squad in conjunction with Delft Crime Prevention Unit, to ensure that our communities are free from unlicensed firearms, turned out to be successful when they arrested a 34-year-old suspect on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. On Thursday 27 June 2024 at around 23:48, the members were busy with stop and searches in the Delft area, when they spotted a suspicious looking person who became nervous upon noticing police presence and ran away. The members gave chase and while on the run the suspect disposed of a firearm on the ground. The suspect was swiftly apprehended on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The 34-year-old man will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once charged, on the mentioned charge. Ends
