FREE STATE – A 22-year-old male is in police custody following an alleged murder at a local tavern in Philippolis. It was on the 15 February 2025 at about 01:30 when a quarrel allegedly started between two males, over a R5 coin during a game of pool at a local tavern in Philippolis. It is alleged that a 22-year-old suspect broke a bottle and stabbed a 22-year-old victim on the neck. Victim went out of the tavern and was found lying on the pavement just outside the tavern. Police were summoned to the scene and found the lifeless body of the victim outside the tavern. A case of murder was opened for investigation. During the course of the day police managed to trace the suspect with the assistance of the community around Philippolis.
Apprehended suspect is expected to appear before Philippolis Magistrates’ Court soon facing a charge of murder.
