DURBAN – Ongoing disruptive stop and search operations have once again yielded positive results when a 31-year-old man was arrested after he was found in possession of two firearms, ammunition and money on Thursday afternoon. Police were conducting a roadblock along the N2 near Mvoti toll plaza and were searching passengers of a mini bus taxi when they found a man who was carrying an AK47 assault rifle with double magazine and 62 rounds of ammunition, a pistol with five rounds of ammunition as well as an undisclosed amount of money in his back pack. The suspect, who disguised himself as a family man by travelling with a woman and a young child, was arrested and duly charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspect is believed to be a member of a gang that bombed a cash in transit vehicle in Ndwedwe two weeks ago. The suspect will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 September 2024. Ends
