Free State Policespokesperson Lt Col Thabo Covane said members of Public Order Police Unit traveling on R30 road spotted a White Chevrolet Utility bakkie driven by a known drug peddler headed towards Bloemfontein.
The K9 patrol vehicle was mobilised to patrol the routes that the driver of the Chevrolet could possibly use to reach Heidedal and the team of Warrant Officer JJ September, Sergeant TM Phoko, Constable MF Duiker and Constable TP Ramaru responded.
The identified suspicious motor vehicle was pulled over at R30-Glen crossroads and the police conducted a search. It took a trained eye to notice that the screws of the sound speaker behind the passenger seat were probably often opened. The team patiently unscrewed the black speaker box only to discover three (3) transparent plastic bags containing Mandrax tablets stashed inside. The 41 year old male was informed of his Constitutional Rights and immediately placed under arrest.
Total number of 2 968 tablets with an estimated street value of R148 400.00 were counted by the police in the suspect’s presence. A case docket of Dealing in drugs was opened at Glen Police Station. Suspect will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Friday 16 May 2025.
