Media Statement GAUTENG- On Wednesday, 22 January 2025, members of the Erasmia SAPS received information from the community regarding a suspect that might be in possession of an unlicensed firearm in the Mooiplaas informal settlement. The information was verified, and the address was confirmed. Additional members from the Public Order Police Unit were requested to assist in the planning and execution of the takedown and recovery operation. During the operation, the house was secured, and the suspect was neutralized. A thorough search of the premises resulted in the discovery of a 12-gauge shotgun with its serial number filed off, hidden in the ceiling. The suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm license or provide a reasonable explanation for being in possession of the unlicensed firearm. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in any other criminal activities. Brigadier Kushie Pietersen commended the members involved for their dedication and exceptional work in ensuring community safety. Ends
