Media Statement GQEBERHA – Police, who were conducting crime prevention duties in Motherwell, tactically responded to an incident in which at least four unknown men have opened fire on the members, resulting in the injury of one of the members last night. One of the suspects was nabbed and one illegal firearm was seized during the incident. It is alleged that on Saturday 26 October 2024, at about 23:45, SAPS Motherwell Crime Prevention Unit members were busy with their duties at Mtendwe Street, NU7 in Motherwell, when they were approached by at least four suspects, who opened fire at the members. Members retaliated and the suspects started to flee in different directions. During the incident, one suspect was arrested and a 9mm firearm was seized. One member sustained a gunshot wound in the lower body, and was taken to hospital, and was later discharged. The suspect (34) was detained on charges of attempted murder, pointing of firearm, and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court during the week. Ends
