Media Statement ZWELITSHA – In an effort to fight Gender Based Violence (GBV) crimes against women and children, Police swiftly followed up on an incident which was captured in a video that went viral where a man was seen assaulting two women at Elliotdale. The suspect was seen in the video assaulting two women at Sholorha Location outside Elliotdale on Thursday, 30 January 2025. A case of Assault was opened for investigation, and preliminary investigation was conducted with no success as the suspect was not around. Detectives attached to Elliotdale SAPS were hot on the heels of the suspect, and he was later arrested. The 29-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for Assault. At this stage, the motive is unclear and forms part of the continuing investigation. The suspect is due to appear at Elliotdale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 03 February 2025. SAPS strongly condemns acts of GBV. Such heinous crimes have no place in our society. SAPS remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, particularly women and children. We will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and prosecute GBV cases and to provide support and protection to victims. We appeal to all communities to report any incidents of GBV to the nearby Police Station or alternatively report to the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
