Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Rochellin Adriana Baartman (41) has appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court today on charges of fraud, theft, forgery and uttering after a warrant of arrest was executed against her by the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team. It is reported that Baartman was employed as a financial administration clerk at Lentegeur High School between 01 January 2019 and 31 December 2020. She was in a position of authority and responsible for compiling the requisition documents as well as capturing the payments onto the online banking system. A total of 66 transactions were completed by Baartman wherein payments were made to her personal bank accounts. Investigation revealed that the suppliers’ invoices were amended to reflect the details of Baartman. Payslips for the period of November 2020 to February 2021 were fraudulently created which indicated that she received a salary from both the Department of Education and the School Governing Body. She used five different methods to process payments. As a result Lentegeur High School suffered a prejudice of R503 445.61. Baartman is granted R20 000.00 bail and the matter is postponed to 13 May 2024 for further investigation. Ends
