Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – Martin Sello Nkoana (52) appeared before East London Magistrate’s court on 27 February 2025 facing allegations of fraud. Nkoana was apprehended by the East London Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) together with South African Revenue Services (SARS) on the same day of his court appearance and was released on warning. On the other hand, his co-accused Lungisa Yvonne Nokwelo (63), Tawana Samuel Tsheoga (54), Unathi Xolisa Yako (44) and Lucob Cleaning Services CC were summoned to appear before East London Magistrate’s court on 30 January 2025, and were also released on warning. During the period between 6 February 2018 and 2 March 2018, Nkoana allegedly colluded with his co-accused by misrepresentation to defraud SARS. Further allegations divulged that the accused submitted a fraudulent income tax returns in respect of Pay As You Earn (PAYE) to SARS. After submission of the aforesaid tax returns, SARS reportedly paid the refund to their business entity. During auditing discrepancies were picked up and the matter was referred to the Hawks for probing Preliminary investigation by the Hawks confirmed the allegations that Nkoana and his accomplice made misrepresentation by unlawful and intentional submitted fraudulent tax returns to defrauded SARS. As result of such activities SARS actual prejudiced cash of more than R5.4 million. A comprehensive investigation by the joint team led to the arrest of the suspect on 27 February 2025, where he appeared before East London Magistrate’s court on the same day and later released on warning. The matter was remanded to 4 April 2025 for further investigation and more arrest is imminent. Ends
