Media Statement from the Office of the Minister of Police
PRETORIA – The Ministry of Police fully acknowledges and supports the peaceful march taking place today at 09:00 in King Dinuzulu Gardens, KwaZulu-Natal, aimed at highlighting concerns regarding undocumented foreign nationals within our communities. As a government, we remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans, and we understand that immigration challenges, particularly involving individuals without legal status, have serious implications for our national security and public safety. It is essential to recognise that those who enter our country unlawfully may contribute to increased criminal activity, which puts a strain on law enforcement and the well-being of citizens. The march is a call for enhanced vigilance and action from the relevant authorities to address illegal immigration and ensure that those who violate the law are held accountable. While the Ministry of Police supports efforts to improve the safety of our communities, we urge all participants in the march to do so peacefully and without violence. The safety of all citizens, regardless of their nationality, is our priority, and we encourage all concerned individuals and communities to continue engaging with law enforcement in a constructive manner. The South African Police Service (SAPS) will continue its efforts to protect all South Africans and ensure that the rule of law is upheld. We will work collaboratively with immigration authorities and all relevant partners to address the root causes of illegal immigration and its associated risks. For more information, contact Ministry Spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi on 076 523 0085. For media releases, speeches and news visit the SAPS portal at: www.saps.gov.za
