Students Oppose Bail for University Official Accused in Deadly Campus Shooting

Walter Sisulu University’s residence manager, Manelisi Mampane, is expected to apply for bail today at the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court following allegations that he fatally shot a student on campus.

The victim, Sisonke Mbolekwa, was reportedly killed during a student protest last week over poor living conditions in the university’s residences. The incident has sparked outrage among students, who are now urging the court to deny Mampane bail.

The 54-year-old appeared in court earlier this week, and his case was postponed to allow time for a formal bail application. He is facing a murder charge in connection with the shooting, which also left three other students injured and hospitalized.
