Cleanup efforts are gaining momentum in KwaZulu-Natal after a wave of severe weather battered several parts of the province.
Over the past few days, residents have had to deal with heavy rainfall, snowfall, and powerful winds that caused widespread damage. Homes were torn apart, schools were affected, and public infrastructure took a significant hit. Several people were also injured during the chaos.
In response, the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) has deployed disaster management teams to provide support on the ground.
“When the damaging winds struck the province, a large number of households were affected,” said CoGTA spokesperson Senzo Mzila. “About six districts have been impacted, with the Ugu district being the hardest hit.”
Mzila confirmed that relief items are being delivered to affected communities as the recovery process continues. Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious while repairs and assessments are carried out.
